From upload to sealed copy
01
Upload the file
Type your name and the editor opens with you set as the only signer. Nobody else is on the document.
02
Mark where you sign
Put a signature where the page asks for one. Add a date, initials or a tick box if the form needs them.
03
Press Sign now
The first time, you sign in with your email address or Google. After that, the button takes you straight to signing.
04
Sign and download
Draw, type or upload your signature. When you finish, the sealed PDF and its certificate are ready to save.
A picture of a signature proves very little
A signature image pasted onto a PDF says nothing about who pasted it or when. On screen it looks the same as a sealed signature. The difference appears when someone asks whether this is the file you signed.
Who signed
- Pasted image
- Whoever pasted the picture. The file cannot say.
- Sign Here
- The certificate names your confirmed email address.
When
- Pasted image
- The file date, which a copy or a save resets.
- Sign Here
- A UTC time for every step, chained into the audit trail.
A later edit
- Pasted image
- Goes unnoticed. The page still looks signed.
- Sign Here
- Breaks the SHA-256 seal, and the verify page says so.
Checking it
- Pasted image
- The other side has to take your word.
- Sign Here
- Anyone can check the file on the verify page, in their own browser.
Someone sent you a signed file and wants it checked? Open the verify page.
Where people sign alone
- A form a landlord, school or bank sent you to sign and return.
- A declaration or statement that needs your signature and the date.
- An internal approval you want on record, at a time nobody can move.
- Your half of an agreement the other side already signed on paper.
Before you sign
Why do I sign in to sign my own document?
Because the certificate states who signed. Signing in proves you control the email address it names, and that is what makes the record worth keeping. You stay signed in for 30 days in that browser.
Is anything sent to anyone?
No invitation goes out, because you are the only signer. You get one email when the document is complete, so a copy also lives in your inbox.
Does it use up a free document?
Yes. A document counts at the moment you press Sign now. Uploading and placing fields cost nothing, so a draft you abandon is not counted.
Can I add another signer after all?
Yes, before you sign. Add them in the editor and the button changes from Sign now back to Send. Once the document is sealed it is closed for good, so a new signer means a new document.
Your PDF, signed and sealed in one tab.
Drop the file in, sign where it asks, and save a copy that shows if it is ever changed.
